10-03-2012 06:59 BJT Special Report:Crisis in Syria |

DAMASCUS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian government troops killed 300 armed men Tuesday in a town near Homs in central Syria, the pro-government radio Sham FM reported.

The government troops carried out Tuesday "qualitative" operations in the town of al-Qusair, leaving 300 armed men killed and 11 cars equipped with automatic machine guns damaged, the radio said.

The radio also reported another military operation that killed 15 gunmen in the northern province of Aleppo on Tuesday.

Clashes between the government troops and armed rebels are intensifying, as some pro-government media claim that the army has the upper hand in the incessant battles.

Also on Tuesday, a small blast rattled a military checkpoint in the Syrian capital Damascus, leaving material damage, pro- government online media reported.

The blast occurred late Tuesday and targeted a checkpoint in Damascus' Khalid Bin al-Walid street. Ambulances have rushed to the scene, but no details were given about the casualties, the report said.

The blast left material damage such as smashed shop windows, it said.
