Australian soldiers injured in truck accident at Sydney army base

10-08-2012 09:25 BJT

SYDNEY, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 17 soldiers have been injured after an army truck rolled at Holsworthy Army Barracks in Sydney's south west, local media reported on Monday.

Emergency services received a call around 8:30 a.m. (local time) on Monday reporting an open-roofed truck had rolled at the army base, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reports.

New South Wales Ambulance spokesman Adam Wallace told ABC Radio that at least two helicopters and ten ambulances had been sent to the scene.

"Their injuries range from quite serious to minor and we're trying to get a breakdown on the approximate numbers," he said.

Wallace said the cause of the accident has yet to be determined.

"We're still in the assessing and treating patients phase, but it appears that a large vehicle has rolled over, and that has led to quite a number of injuries," he said.
