Barca look to make big step to last 16 of Champions League

MADRID, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona can virtually assure their place in the last 16 of the Champions League if they beat Scottish Champions, Glasgow Celtic in the Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova will once again have problems in forming his side's defense and as Saturday's anarchic 5-4 win away to Deportivo la Coruna demonstrated, defense is the area where Barca have to improve.

Carles Puyol is still recovering after dislocating his elbow in the previous Champions League win, away to Benfica, while Gerard Pique is still doubtful as his ankle injury forced him to spend Sunday's training session in the gym.

With Sergio Busquets serving the first of a two game ban for his sending off in Lisbon, Vilanova is also without the option of using the midfielder at the back as has happened on other occasions.

They leaves Barca with three options: Adriano could partner Javier Mascherano as he did in the "Clasico" against Real Madrid two weeks ago, but given Celtic's threat from set pieces, it is unlikely the 1.72 tall full back will play in the middle.

Mark Bartra could also be given the chance, but so far Vilanova has continually overlooked the young central defender, while implies that Alex Song will again be given the job of covering in the heart of the back four.

Meanwhile Martin Montoya will continue at right back for the injured Dani Alves, while Xavi Hernandez and Pedro Rodriguez will return to a side once again led by Leo Messi, who scored a magnificent hat-trick at the weekend.

David Villa will probably drop back to the subs' bench while the absence of Busquets ensures that Cesc Fabrigas will be able to continue with his impressive recent form which has seen him become the best assist provider in the side.

Barca go into the game with wins against Spartak Moscow and Benfica and his side are clear favorites, but they should not be overconfident against a side that has drawn at home to Benfica and won in Moscow. Celtic travel to Barcelona on the back of a decisive 5-0 win away to Saint Mirren and will be followed by thousands of supporters in the Camp Nou.
