Australia facilitates local firms' travel to Asia

11-01-2012 13:06 BJT

CANBERRA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Travel Card (ABTC) has been extended to Australian small and medium-sized enterprises to make them easier to travel to Asia, Immigration Minister Chris Bowen said on Thursday.

"This better recognizes the broad range of employees on which businesses rely to conduct trade and investment activities on their behalf," Bowen said in a statement.

It will help local businesses take part in the government's Asian plans, set out in its Asian Century white paper.

Through a single application form, the ABTC allows accredited business-people to travel for short-term visits to other APEC economies over a three-year period.

The Australian Industry Group and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be tasked with certifying businesses that are genuinely engaged in international trade or investment in the APEC region.
