Arab ministerial committee on Syria convenes on Nov. 12

11-05-2012 06:11 BJT Special Report:Crisis in Syria |

CAIRO, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Arab ministerial committee in charge of handling the Syrian crisis will convene here its meeting on Nov. 12, prior to a Arab foreign ministers' meeting later in the same day, at headquarter of the Arab League (AL), Kuwait's Permanent Delegate to AL Jamal Al-Ghuneim said Sunday.

The meeting will discuss the latest developments in Syria in the humanitarian and political fields in light of efforts of the Lakhdar Brahimi, UN-AL joint special representative to Syria, and the results of his visit to Moscow and Beijing, according to a media statement issued by Ghuneim.

A proposition of the Syrian issue will be submitted by the committee's meeting to the AL's emergency meeting at the foreign ministers level, to crystallize Arab stance towards the crisis.

Brahimi will deliver a report in the FM meeting about the future horizons for the Syrian crisis, and his visions to tackle the crisis based on his triple meeting here in Cairo with the AL chief Nabil al-Arabi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The FMs' meeting will also touch upon preparations for the UN conference on evacuating the Middle East from nuclear weapons, and mass destruction weapons.

In its sides, a document named Cairo Declaration will be announced during the Arab-European Union foreign ministers joint meeting, scheduled to be held on Nov. 13 in Cairo, which will also highlight the Syrian crisis and other regional issues.

The shaky truce for Eid al-Adha proposed by Brahimi was torn apart by deadly airstrikes and car bomb attacks late October, with the Syrian government and the opposition pointing fingers at each other.
