Hollande urges Syrian opposition to organize itself to qualify for world legitimacy

11-05-2012 06:11 BJT Special Report:Crisis in Syria |

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- French President Francois Hollande affirmed on Sunday as part of his short visit to Saudi Arabia the importance of Syrian opposition to organize itself to qualify for world legitimacy, through finding a consensual person representing the opposition who will form an interim government through a fair democratic process, according to the Saudi News Agency.

Hollande called in a press conference in Jeddah to help the Syrian opposition. "There should be an interim government and an organized opposition gaining our trust as a condition to receive our arms and we guarantee how they can deal with the arms," he said.

France is the one who took the initiative and shouldered the responsibility in the Security Council, the French President said, adding that his country managed to gather the Syrian opposition, call for its recognition and condemn Assad's government for violations and provide medical assistance in Jordan.

Hollande stressed the strong relations between his country and Saudi Arabia in various fields. He said that the visit showed identical viewpoints between France and Saudi Arabia on overall issues and events. In particular, the Syrian and Lebanese arenas in addition to the latest regional developments were discussed, he said.
