The new panda channel is an international new media platform forged and developed by China Network Television (CNTV). The channel centers on the giant panda, a rare species unique to China, in an attempt to show global netizens, by means of multiple end devices and in multiple languages, the real lovable pandas and how they are protected. The goal is to convey the idea of peace, friendliness and the greater public good.

The launch ceremony opened with a lively Kung Fu Panda show at 2:30 p.m. During this one-hour ceremony, the images of giant pandas, the warm affection they have received globally and the work China has done to protect them are displayed through video, live coverage and on-site interviews. Additionally, the functions and features of the panda channel website, both in Chinese and English, the online community and the mobile phone application are also introduced. Among these, the world's only round-the-clock, multi-channel real time live broadcast of giant pandas was the main focus of attention.

Wang Wenbin, general manager of China Network TV

Reports state that in cooperation with the Chengdu Research Base for Giant Panda Breeding, CNTV has set up 28 cameras across the Base, providing 24-hour live coverage of the pandas' daily life.

A fully equipped on-site television control room ensures the directors may watch and switch between the different cameras. They select the 11 most interesting scenes and transfer them online via the video distribution network to let viewers in every corner of the world enjoy the best quality live coverage any time, any place. Besides, the panda channel will provide a 30-minute video-on-demand program, as well as lots of panda documentaries and feature films produced by CCTV.

The iPanda.com launch kicks off with a fireworks-filled kung Fu Panda performance.

CNTV will make persistent efforts to forge innovative ways of live streaming. It will build a "China live" platform, making full use of the pioneering HD live broadcasting technology and global distribution capacity. With pandas as a starting point, CNTV will continue to tap into the potential of precious wildlife, tourism, cultural relics and education with Chinese characteristics in order to develop new services. By introducing China's great mountains and excellent culture in a comprehensive way, we will let the world get a full and live picture of a truly beautiful China.
