Kerry: Had zero expectation for Russia-Ukraine direct talks

Lavrov, who had talks with foreign ministers of the United States, France, Germany and Britain, said further discussions on Ukraine would take place "in days to come".

Earlier, a senior U.S. State Department official denied Russian reports that Moscow and the Western powers had agreed that the Ukrainian government and opposition need to stick to the EU-brokered peace deal.

Lavrov was in Paris for a meeting of the International Support Group for Lebanon, which was originally scheduled to deal with the Syrian refugee crisis. Moscow does not recognise the new Ukrainian leadership in Kiev that ousted pro-Russian president Yanukovych.
