Swedish author wins top children’s book award

The world’s largest children’s award, the 2014 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award has announced its winners on Tuesday. Barbro Lindgren, the Swedish author of "innovative and multifaceted" works for children of all ages was among the honored.

Barbro Lindgren is best known for the absurd 1969 tale of Loranga, Masarin and Dartanjang, about a world where anything can happen. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was established by the Swedish government in 2002.

The annual prize is approximately 560,000 euros, and for the first time ever the Laureate is a Swede. The award ceremony will take place at the Stockholm Concert Hall on June 2nd.
