Full coverage: Malaysia Airlines Plane Bound for Beijing Goes Missing

Entering the one month mark since Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 went missing, China is continuing to search for the aircraft’s black box in the vastness of the South Indian Ocean. In the early stages, China deployed 21 satellites, and used remote sensing technologies to search for the missing plane.

Four Chinese ships and a British ship on Monday continued the hunt for missing flight MH370, scanning an expanded sea area in the Indian Ocean in which one of the vessels had earlier picked up a pulse signal consistent with flight recorders. Meanwhile, nine ships have been sent to search waters around the gulf of Thailand, the island of Sumatra and other areas of the Indian Ocean. Last Friday, Chinese patrol vessel Haixun 01 detected a pulse signal in the South Indian Ocean, with the same frequency as those emitted by flight recorders. It then re-detected the pings for 90 seconds on Saturday just 2 km away from the original spot.

Currently, a fleet of four ships is trawling the area where the pings were detected. After a month of searching, Chinese military planes have flown over 80,000 kilometers, and searched over 120 thousand square kilometers for the missing jet liner.
