Some other guests also spoke at the opening ceremony this morning, highlighting the role Asia is playing in developing the world economy.

Boao Forum for Asia's chairman Yasuo Fukuda said: "The theme this year is "Asia's New Future: Identifying New Growth Drivers". Asia's economy has taken a larger part in the world, and thus the responsibility of Asia is growing.

"In order to maintain development, Asian countries should not only care about our own interests, but also the interests of the region as even the whole world. We have to be responsible to our words and actions. Otherwise, sustainable economic and social development could not be reached."

South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hongwon said: "In the past decades, Asia has achieved significant development, and acted as the leading role in developing the world economy. There are estimates saying that by 2050, Asia's economy will take up to 50 percent of the world economy. We could see that Asia is going to play a bigger role in the future."

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said: "The regional connectivity needs to be the most important driver of steady growth for developing countries of Asia in this decade. We must try to build the connectivity, particularly through all the land and sea links. As we all know, infrastructure development stimulates investment, provides job opportunities and connects billions of consumers."
