Premier Li Keqiang is set to pay official visits to Ethiopia, Nigeria, Angola and Kenya from May 4th to 11th. This will be the first time for Li to visit Africa since he took office in 2013 and it coincides with the 50th anniversary of former Premier Zhou Enlai’s first visit to Africa.

China’s Foreign Ministry said Li will hold talks with the leaders of the four countries, and also the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. The two sides are expected to sign about 60 deals in sectors including, trade, health, culture, agriculture and personnel training.

During his stay in Ethiopia, Li will attend the opening ceremony of a highway constructed by Chinese corporations, visit an industrial park and hold a seminar with businessmen from China and African countries. Li will deliver a speech at the 2014 World Economic Forum on Africa in Abuja, capital of Nigeria. He will also hold a seminar with Chinese companies during his stay in Angola.

Assistant Minister of Commerce Zhang Xiangchen said economic cooperation is a major part of Premier Li’s visit.

"China will continue to encourage enterprises to expand business in areas of resource processing, agriculture, finance and services in Africa.
China will also encourage enterprises to pay attention to environment and community development," he said.
