When taking the subway, most people prefer to look down at their cellphones. Now, passengers in Shanghai are getting a change from that. Two subway lines, Line 8 and Line 10 that are printed with works of Monet, Picasso and Zhang Daqian have just rolled out.

For those who take subway Line 10 on their daily commute, they might find something different. Walking inside the train carriage, the walls are decorated with printed works from painting masters like Monet, Picasso and Zhang Daqian. Passengers can also find notes next to the paintings to learn more about the masterpieces.

So far Shanghai has six cultural subways, all with different themes from traditional culture to western art.  According to officials, ten more cultural subways are set to sail later this year.  However, some doubt whether the artworks will catch the attention of passengers.

"Most passengers just walk in looking down at their cellphone, so I think marks on the floor could lead their attention to the artworks."

Shanghai Metro is also launching a photo contest of metro art. Passengers can snap shots of metro art from around the world and submit it before June 9th, and the winning works will be presented on one of the culture subways.
