Gaokao students' relatives pray to lucky willow tree

The parents of students in the town of Maotanchang, in Anhui province, have turned to an old willow tree to help their children get high scores. Located in one of the town's high schools, the tree is often surrounded by anxious relatives who believe it can bring luck.

The high school has earned a reputation as a "Gaokao Mill", for successfully preparing students to pass the college entrance exam. Praying to the wizened tree may not bring higher scores, but it will certainly soothe parents determined to give their children every chance there is.
