China's Foreign Ministry says China is willing to work with Vietnam to promote bilateral ties despite the current problems. But at a press briefing on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying also vowed that China will take "all necessary actions" to safeguard its sovereignty and maritime interests.

"The most urgent thing now is for Vietnam to stop obstructing Chinese operations, stop exaggerating the issues, stop exaggerating disagreements, stop creating new disputes, and properly deal with the aftermath of recent serious incidents of violence, vandalism, burning and looting. Vietnam must take effective steps to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions, companies and nationals in Vietnam." Hua said.
