Belgium roars into quarters after beating U.S. 2-1

Belgium claimed the final place in the last eight. They dominated against America, but had to wait until extra-time, just like their next opponents Argentina, before the Red Devils could seal it.

The introduction of Romelu Lukaku made a significant difference, as the substitute made the first and scored the second, in a two-one win. The USA, though, never gave up and almost forced a penalty shoot-out.

The States' goalkeeper Tim Howard was inspired... at times a one-man rearguard. But he couldn't keep out this one out, as Kevin De Bruyne put Belgium ahead in the third minute of the extra session.

Lukaku made it 2-0 for the Europeans in the 105th minute with a first-time strike.

Even though Julian Green helped the United States pull a goal back later, the substitute scoring with his first touch, but Belgium was able to see off Jurgen Klinsmann's side 2-1. But the German says he's proud of his team.

Argentina and Belgium will meet in Brasilia on Saturday, after completing a Quarter-Final line-up, which will feature all eight Group Stage winners, with four teams each from Europe and Latin America. Also on Saturday, the Netherlands take on rank outsiders Costa Rica in Salvador.

Hosts Brazil face Colombia in Fortaleza on Friday, preceded by France against Germany in Rio de Janeiro.
