China asks U.S. to not abuse trade laws for own favor

07-18-2014 00:39 BJT

China is asking the U.S. to not misuse WTO rules to protect its own industries and says it will continue to safeguard the sincerity and regulations of the trade group.

The World Trade Organization ruled in two reports released Monday that the U.S. broke its rules by imposing tariffs on Chinese steel products and solar panels. Commerce Minister Gao Hu-cheng said in a statement following the WTO rulings that China has questioned the legality of the U.S. measures since 2006 and the reports prove that more than 26 U.S. actions were not in line with WTO regulations.

The Commerce Ministry said it also hopes that the U.S. would uphold the multilateral framework of the WTO and oppose protectionism.
