Nielsen: China's consumer confidence remains at record high

07-22-2014 01:15 BJT

Chinese consumer confidence remains at a record high, according to new data from Information company Nielsen. The report released on Monday shows that for the third quarter in a row, Chinese consumer confidence for Q2 is staying unchanged at 111 points.

Readings above 100 indicate optimism. Per capita spending continued to grow in the second quarter, mainly thanks to higher incomes and China’s economic rebalancing. Interesting to note, consumers in third tier cities reported the highest confidence score of 113 points, closely followed by tier 4 cities at 112 points.

Tier 1 and tier 2 cities show the same level of confidence at 110 points. The confidence in rural areas meanwhile remains unchanged from the previous quarter at 110 points. Martina Fuchs earlier spoke to Nielsen China’s Managing Director, and this is what he had to say.
