08-08-2014 11:57 BJT

Foreign Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, are meeting in Myanmar’s capital of Nay Pyi Taw.

The three-day meeting is set to deliberate on important political, security and developmental issues crucial to ASEAN. These include building up ASEAN institutions, ASEAN’s external relations and its role in the region, as well as regional and international issues. The meeting is an important push for ASEAN toward its goal of establishing an ASEAN Community in 2015, and the development of its post-2015 vision. Myanmar’s President U Thein Sein is delivering the keynote address in the meeting. As host, the country seeks to show its development achievements and create a better external environment for further development. The meeting will also bring foreign ministers from dialogue partner countries to discuss issues that have significant impact on the region.
