IDF: Ceasefire broken by two rockets from Gaza

08-08-2014 12:35 BJT

The Israeli military says that two rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel, violating the ceasefire scheduled to end at eight A-M local time on Friday.

Earlier, Hamas leading member Ezzat al-Rishq reassured in a brief statement on Thursday that the delegation will achieve the demands of their people. He’s in Cairo with the united Palestinian delegation for talks on a truce with Israel. Rishq’s remarks came in response to an earlier statement of the Islamic movement’s armed wing, Al-Qassam Brigades. It called on the negotiation team in Cairo "not to extend the current ceasefire until demands are met."

Israel’s Haaretz newspaper said earlier that no agreement had been reached at the meeting in Cairo. However, Israeli media says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered troops stationed in the southern part of the country to remain on alert, as they may re-enter the Gaza Strip. Egypt has urged both sides to extend the ceasefire to win time and tackle all complaints and demands.
