Full coverage: Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games

The 2014 Youth Olympic Games will begin Saturday in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

Nanjing is an ancient city with a history of more than 2,600 years, and visitors will be able experience its history and culture during the Games.

The Ming City Wall, perhaps one of China's most underrated tourist attractions is arguably the world's longest circular city wall. Also known as the “other Great Wall of China,” it was built between 1366 and 1386 to protect the founding capital of the Ming Dynasty. Some 22 of the remaining 25 kilometers of the once-inaccessible wall are now open to the public.

The opening coincides with the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games, and is part of an effort to get the Ming City Wall a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2015.

On the other side of the city, a time-honored theater house has also opened after a renovation. Visitors can enjoy traditional performing arts every day, just like old times. And, it is free of charge.

"We have arranged dozens of performances during the Youth Olympics, including Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera as well as local tunes. It caters to both local citizens and our international guests," stage manager Xu Kai said.

With the arrival of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, the ancient city of Nanjing is gaining new life. Visitors can discover for themselves its history and modernity at various spots around the city.
