Swan on the ice lake

08-10-2014 00:17 BJT

The Moscow Ballet Theatre performed a version of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece Swan Lake that combines ballet with skate dancing  at Beijing’s Century Theater.

Beijing's Century Theater has welcomed the ballet Swan Lake. But this version is extra special, as it plays out on a frozen lake with skating dancers.

The troupe practiced and rehearsed for a whole year before performing the show to audiences in Russia in an experimental performance early this year. But as the director said, the true debut was here in China.

Natalia Kungurtseva, who plays Odette, spent eight years of her childhood  learning ballet, and she has danced it for the past 20 years.

Pavlo Siemuskov has been a skate dancer for 26 years. This was first time he has been part of a show like this.

Swan Lake is well-known in China. Many parents have taken their children to see it before at an event called "Behind the Stage," which allows children to have their photos taken with the cast and crew.

The troupe will now perform the show on a nationwide tour.
