An international book fair will open Wednesday in Shanghai. Organizers say that this year book lovers will have even more opportunities to meet their favorite writers, including a Nobel laureate.

Ahead of the fair's opening, 2001 Nobel Literature Prize winner V.S. Naipaul is in Shanghai to promote the Chinese version of his favorite novel "A Bend In The River." Naipaul said that he will take part in several activities with readers during the fair, and according to the organizer,  that is just one of this year's highlights.

"This is the 11th year for the Shanghai Book Fair. We think the biggest difference between this and previous fairs is that we're making more effort to promote reading among the general public," said Kan Ninghui, Deputy Director, SH Press & Publication Administration.

Kan said that the week-long fair at the Shanghai Exhibition Center will have more than 150,000 books on display. And there will be more than 600 activities involving authors and readers around the city. Many will take place in district-level libraries and cultural centers.
