Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead on Monday at his home in Northern California. Police suspect it was a suicide caused by asphyxiation. Williams' publicist Mara Buxbaum said that he had been suffering from severe depression.

Williams had struggled with alcohol addiction in the past. Just last month, he entered a Minnesota rehabilitation center, returning to a 12 Step treatment program after 18 months of non-stop work.

His wife Susan Schneider released a statement saying she is “utterly heartbroken” over the loss of her husband and best friend.

Williams rose to fame in the late 1970s with the TV series "Mork & Mindy." He won an Academy Award for his role as a fatherly therapist in 1997's "Good Will Hunting" and is celebrated by many for his multi-faceted talents and good character.

"If I talked about him the way I want to, people would think I made him up. I mean you have this man who is truly one of the top 10 greatest all-time standup comics ever and he's also a Julliard-trained, Academy award-winning actor. He's also one of the kindest human beings I've ever met," Sarah Michelle Gellar said.

Williams’ last completed film was "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb." It is the third installment in the comedy film series also starring Ben Stiller, Rebel Wilson, Ben Kingsley and Ricky Gervais. The trilogy tells the adventures of a museum's displays, which are magically brought to life. Williams stars as Theodore Roosevelt. The movie will be released on December 19.
