Full coverage: Ebola Outbreak in West Africa

Canada says it will donate 800 to 1,000 doses of an experimental vaccine to the World Health Organization in hopes of containing the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The experimental vaccine has been developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada. The vaccine, VSV-EBOV, has never been tested on humans, but has shown promise in animal research.

Meanwhile, the WHO has declared it is ethical to use untested drugs and vaccines in the Ebola outbreak. But it said that a tiny supply of one experimental treatment has been depleted and it could be many months until more is available.

Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria are the worst affected countries, with the death toll at over 1,000. The UN health agency says that of 1,848 suspected or confirmed cases, 1,013 people have died so far.

West African nations are struggling to control both the deadly outbreak and the fear surrounding the contagion. Guinea-Bissau has announced a temporary closing of its border with Guinea.
