DPRK fires 3 short-range projectiles into eastern waters

08-14-2014 11:23 BJT

South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency says the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has fired three artillery shells into eastern waters. The projectiles are believed to have a range of some 200 kilometers. They were launched from 300 milimeter-caliber multiple-rocket launchers.

This follows the release of a statement by the DPRK’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland. It calls on South Korea to lift economic sanctions and cancel military drills with the US, scheduled to start on Monday. Pyongyang warns the drills will push the two neighbors to the brink of war.
