"This is a major hardware development, taking virtual reality to a much higher level. Soon you'll be able to immerse yourself even deeper into fantastic gaming worlds. It's a very important step. One of the main attractions at Gamescom this year is Sony's Project Morpheus.

"It enables the gamer to enter a completely new gaming experience - a completely new world order, a complete decoupling from reality. You are right in the middle. You feel like you are a part of the action. We've never had anything like this before - it's unique," said Uwe Bassendowski, Sony Computer Entertainment.

The fair covers all types of interactive games, for PC and consoles, as well as online and browser games.

Classic blockbusters have been updated, including "Call of Duty", "Battlefield" and "Fifa 15".

But it's not all about the cutting edge..... the retro section remains as popular as ever, with gamers going back in time to play 80s classics like Pong and Donkey Kong.

Organizers say they've already sold more than 300,000 tickets... and more game-lovers are expected to show up.
