The APEC 2014 Third Senior Officials’ Meeting kicks off in Beijing today. The meeting that will culminate on Thursday will cover a broad range of areas including trade and investment, agriculture, and anti-corruption, setting the agenda for the final APEC 2014 Economic leaders meeting in November.
At the top of the agenda for the APEC 2014 Third Senior Officials’ Meeting, high level stakeholders are pushing the agenda of economic integration.
Attending the meeting this year are delegates representing the 21 APEC member economies, APEC Secretariat, APEC Business Advisory Council and APEC observers.
"The Third Senior Official Meeting will be the last comprehensive senior officials’ meeting before APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November this year. China cherishes the opportunity of hosting the APEC 2014 and is willing to build with APEC members an Asia-Pacific partnership that will lead future cooperation," Yang Jiechi said.
With only 80 days to go before the opening of the 22nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November, Yang called on all members to promote cooperation, adhere to opening up and inclusiveness…..and push for an outcome consensus at the Leaders’ Meeting.
Beijing is playing host to the senior officials meeting and other related meet-ups for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. That includes some 100 sessions covering topics such as trade, investment, agriculture, food and anti-corruption which began on August 6th.
One task for the many committees would be to deepen consensus, implement cooperation initiatives, and make preparations for the outcome document of the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting.
Compared with previous two senior officials meetings which was held in February and May, the Third Senior Officials meeting is the most comprehensive one with the largest number of participants and the most intensive schedule. A series of policy dialogues, seminars, workshops, exhibitions and other special events have been held during this period, paving the way for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting to be held in November in Beijing this year.
