China’s first Beidou satellite application summit is now entering its third day, as part of the Asia- Europe Expo events.
The Beidou system’s chief Architect, Sun Jiadong, says the work to establish a global satellite network will begin in 2015. The initial plan is to send 5 experimental satellites next year. They will be tested for one year before being officially launched.
The network is expected to be accomplished by 2020. Sun says the network is not merely an increase in the number of satellites, but also an overall upgrade of the whole system’s performance.
This morning, China successfully launched two satellites via one rocket at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi desert.
