11-14-2014 15:09 BJT

A Chinese joint venture has won a 567-million-US dollar contract to supply subway trains for the city of Boston, the first such deal in the US.

CNR MA is a joint venture between China Changchun Railway Vehicles and China CNR Corporation Limited, a Chinese State-owned enterprise considered the world's largest rail car maker. CNR MA will supply 284 cars. They will replace the 32-year-old cars on Boston's Orange Line and 44-year-old cars on its Red Line.

Delivery is set to begin in 2018 and expected to be complete in 2021.
