Maldive's water supply relies on the malfuntioned desalination plant

12-09-2014 11:09 BJT

An unexpected fire in Maldive's desalination plant has dragged the country into a water crisis. The significant aftermath is due to the nature of the nation.

The Maldives is an island nation in Indian Ocean. Surrounded by pristine seas and ocean vistas, the archipelago completely relies on sea water desalination and water imports to satify the needs of its citizen.

This time, the country declared state of emergency because the only desalination plant caught fire, and about 150 thousand people were affected in the capital Male.
