12-09-2014 14:30 BJT

In the Philippines, Tropical Storm Hagupit has further weakened to a tropical depression, as it makes its way towards the South China Sea. Hagupit has left at least 27 dead and thousands of homes ruined.

The storm lost steam as it made its fifth and final landfall over the Lubang Islands, 150 kilometers southwest of the capital Manila. It's now moving west towards the South China Sea at 13 kilometers an hour.

The Philippine weather bureau says Hagupit is expected to exit by Wednesday. The storm has affected more than 2 million people in the country, and nearly 1.7 million people have been evacuated. Thousands of residents are eager to go home from temporary shelters.
