HK residents welcome protest camp clearance

12-11-2014 15:58 BJT

Hong Kong residents have been voicing support for the operation to clear the main protest camps. Many expressed a desire to return to normal life, after two months of disruption.

"We firmly support universal suffrage to elect the Hong Kong SAR government within the frame work of Hong Kong’s Basic Law. We support the Hong Kong police. These protests have had a big impact on our lives. Students in Wanchai havn’t been able to go to school. Shops in Wanchai havn’t been able to open. We’ve been disgusted by the protesters. We want Hong Kong to be governed by law," said Kok Hamming, HK resident.

"The "Occupy Central" movement has made a great impact on Hong Kong society. Lives have been inconvenienced and the economy has suffered. Social order has been damaged. We hope this chaos can come to an early end," said Lee Siuyung, HK resident.

"The protests went on too long. Only a stable Hong Kong can prosper. One group of people has turned a deaf ear to the interests of other Hong Kong residents. They wanted to damage Hong Kong’s peace, stability and unity. So the police should take action. I think such action will certainly be supported by the people," said Woo Tinchi, HK resident.
