World economy expanded 2.6% in 2014, expected to grow 3.1% in 2015

A UN report predicts that the world economy will continue to grow slowly, expanding 3.1 percent in 2015 and 3.3 percent in 2016.

The report also says that the world economy grew a mild 2.6 percent this year, a slight pickup from the year before. The aftermath of the global financial crisis still drags growth. The Ebola outbreak and the crisis in Ukraine were major obstacles as well.

Downside risks include uncertainties brought on by the US Federal Reserve’s rate hike, a weakening of emerging markets, and geopolitical conflicts.
