Mao Jingxian (Katherine), Producer
Mao Jingxian joined CCTV about 2 decades ago, when she started as a news reporter and later, a director for the television magazine program China Today. She covered major historic events including Hong Kong’s return to China’s mainland, APEC meetings and China’s financial reforms. From 2000 to 2003, she acted as one of the leading reporters and directors in a 30-minute current affairs based talk show, Dialogue, and interviewed a number of globally influential figures including former US. Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger and Nobel Prize Laureate Sir. James Mirrlees.
In 2004, she spearheaded the production of Up Close, a 45-minute talk show interviewing high-profile individuals and celebrities making a difference in China and the world. As the first and only talk show with a live studio audience on CCTV-NEWS, Up Close brought nearly 400 brilliant figures to the screen, among them Alibaba Founder Jack Ma, primatologist Jane Goodall, Jet Li, Frank Gehry and Victor Koo. The program won Katherine and the team many awards at home and abroad.
In 2009, she was Director-in-Chief of the nationwide CCTV Cup English Speaking Contest. One year later, with fellow colleagues, she founded the original Crossover program, a 30-minute cross-cultural talk show offering viewers a perspective on cultures, habits, and events in China because she strongly believes that communication melts down confrontation.
Katherine is a graduate of China’s Foreign Affairs University. She is also a council member of China-US People’s Friendship Association. She likes travel, reading and yoga.
