Japanese prime minister insists economy a priority

12-25-2014 16:31 BJT

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has introduced his new cabinet and says that the government will prioritise the economy next year.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe scored a big election win earlier this month and that means his Abenomics will continue. The prime minister says the economy remains his priority and also expresses confidence that his economic policies will play well in the new year.

"My greatest task is to make Abenomics successful," Abe said. "Only when you have a strong economy can you have strong diplomacy. They are two sides of the same coin. That is why I am prioritising the economy."

But some analysts are slightly less optimistic than the prime minister about Japan's economy next year.

Analysts say Abe's re-election indicates continuing reflationary economic policies in his upcoming third year in office. Still, investors will continue to keep a close eye on Abenomics.
