S.Korean Navy takes delivery of 14th guided missile destroyer

02-28-2014 14:50 BJT

SEOUL, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- South Korean Navy took delivery of its 14th guided-missile destroyer, the state-run defense procurement agency said Friday.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said in a statement that it delivered the guided-missile patrol killer on Friday to the Navy after putting into service the 13th such destroyer last month.

The local shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction started to build the patrol killer in December 2011 before the Navy's test run and quality test. The destroyer will be deployed to the combat operation after the two-month of military force integration.

The battleship will replace the decrepit patrol killer to defend the country's shoreline and harbors.

The 450-ton high-speed ship, equipped with ship-to-ship guided missiles and 76 mm guns, can sail at a top speed of 40 knots and accommodate 40 crew members.

The ship was also built in stealth technology to improve radar- evading capability, the agency said.
