Jamie Carragher and Gerrard captain for the two sides which boast a host of past and present Reds stars. Also coming to the support are number of familiar English Premier League faces, including Thierry Henry.

As one of the current Liverpool players, Mario Balotelli scores a rare goal by firing a long shot into the bottom of the net. Didier Drogba then doubles the tally for Carragher's side who dominate the opening exchanges.

It's left to Gerrard to bring his team back into the match. In the 36th, Martin Kelly appears to foul Jerome Sinclair in the area. The referee awards a penalty to Gerrard's men.

Facing his former team-mate Pepe Reina, the Liverpool captain converts from the spot and brings some delight to the crowd of over 40,000. It's 2-1 at half-time.

Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres are introduced to rapturous applause at the start of the second half.

Suarez soon wins a penalty for his side after combining well with Gerrard. The Uruguayan goes to the ground following some touches from Carragher.

Gerrard sends the keeper the wrong way from 12 yards and puts the scoreline at 2-all. The Reds midfielder is then substituted to enjoy the applause from the fans. 2-2 is the final score on the specail day for Gerrard and any Liverpool supporter.
