Full coverage: Beijing Bids for 2022 Winter Olympics

China's capital has been chosen to the games becoming the first city to stage both the summer and winter Olympics. And in an interview wih CCTV's Dan Williams, IOC Vice President Craig Reedie says he has no doubt Beijing will deliver a successful games.

The 2022 Winter Olympics bidding process may be over but IOC members still had other important issues to address at the IOC session.

However, the celebrations of Beijing’s successful bid for the 2022 games remain fresh in the mind. And a return to China’s capital is an exciting prospect for many of the IOC members.

For the Beijing team, the work now begins on the delivery process of a successful Games in 2022… and addressing the issues raised in the IOC Evaluation Commission’s report. But IOC vice president Craig Reedie is in no doubt the games will be a success.

"For some of us who went through the summer games on 2008 we know exactly what to expect. And we are fully confident on delivery. And if there was one reason between the two candidates, that confidence was what just swung it towards Beijing," Reedie said.

Although the vote between Beijing and Almaty was a closely fought battle, one of the other key advantages of the Beijing bid was the legacy a winter Games could have in China. The potentia is that tens of millions of new participants will now take up winter sports.

And that factor is not lost on IOC members.

If that level of participation can develop over the next few years ahead of 2022, there is the chance that the winter sports movement can reach a whole new level.
