China's claims to the Diaoyu Islands have been upheld by a German director's documentary.

This 40-minute documentary named "Diaoyu Islands: The Truth" premiered in Los Angeles in March 2014. It makes the case that the Diaoyu Islands have been Chinese territory since ancient times. Its director, 77-year-old German Chris D. Nebe, spent about a year shooting the film at his own expense of about 500,000 US dollars.

I am doing this because in the west, the media is biased. And frankly speaking, they have no idea about what China really is.: Chris D. Nebe said, "They have also no idea that in the last 200 years, China has suffered a lot, by foreigners, through internal situations. And now, after 200 years of struggle, China is finally rising again. And it's my mission to tell the world the beauty of China.

To date, Nebe has made 17 documentaries about China covering subjects like the ancient Silk Road, Yunnan, and Tibet. After setting up his studio in Shanghai today, he said he is interested in making a film about the city's history.

"I'm very impressed by what the Hongkou municipality has done in restoring the Jewish area and the beautiful museum. So I'm thinking I would like to make a documentary about Shanghai Jews." Chris D. Nebe said.

Nebe's studio is located inside a film industry park in Hongkou District that the city hopes to build into a base for both domestic and overseas filmmakers.
