China held a grand military parade on September 3 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-fascist War. The V-Day parade not only aims to commemorate the history and the martyrs, but also to maintain world peace and development.

Parade is a concentrated demonstration of China’s military power

There are two veteran formations, 11 marching formations, 27 military equipment formations, 10 air squads as well as a military band and chorus attending the parade with a total number of 12,000 participants. All the equipment demonstrated is new, and more than four-fifths of it appears in public for the first time.

The diverse equipment and military units comprehensively reflect the achievements of national defense construction through more than three decades of reform and opening up.

But the Chinese nation has always loved peace and it needs a peaceful environment for China to achieve a great rejuvenation. The parade is not a demonstration against any country or  brandishing military force. It aims to show China’s resolve to safeguard peace and promote development.

Parade is all-round review of national unity

To successfully stage the celebration, Beijing residents have actively responded to the government’s appeal and showed a good spirit. The neighboring city of Tianjin and Hebei province have strengthened cooperation and reduced air emissions. With joint efforts and national unity, the average PM2.5 concentration in Beijing has lowered during August.

People enjoyed blue skies with white clouds. This shows the fine tradition of cooperation between the army and the civilians. National cooperation indicates that the Chinese army is the people’s army following the Communist Party’s command, able to win the war and with a fine style of work with national support.

Parade is like a mirror reflecting some countries’ attitudes towards war and peace

Different countries have different attitudes towards China’s military parade. In a sense, the parade is like a mirror that reflects that most countries are opposed to war and seek to maintain peace. But we should also draw attention to the fact that individual countries try to defend their crimes in World War II and express no sincere apology, which also reflects the parochialism and the obscene and stubborn nature of certain nation. For sure, it cannot earn world respect.

As we look to the future, we can learn from the past. China’s V-Day parade fully demonstrated that the people’s army can take on the responsibility of safeguarding domestic stability and world peace.
