The second China-Arab States Expo themed, "Online Silk Road, Interconnection and Interworking", a platform to promote ties between China and Middle East and North African Arab countries, kicked off recently in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, northwest China.

The expo features seminars on Online Silk Road, e-commerce, satellite applications and developments, as well as new generation cloud computing, centering on "policy communication, road linking, smooth trade, currency circulation and popular sentiments."

After the strategic conception of info-port construction  was put forward at the first China-ASEAN cyber space forum in 2014, Beijing proposed construction of the Online Silk Road to serve relevant countries, which reached a common consensus at the expo.

The Silk Road economy depends on channels. More than 2000 years ago, the world famous Silk Road had traversed from east and west, closely linking China and Arab countries, such as in economic and cultural arteries. As described in a poem, "it is difficult for people to get across this vast ocean; we have to use these camels as ships." These camels have pioneered a road connecting Chang’an with Rome. Nowadays, we cannot hear the sounds of camel bells, since they have been replaced by high-speed rails, airlines and vibrant online transactions.

The internet has become a creative power to drive development and to change people's lives. China has boosted the "internet plus" action and developing the digital economy, e-commerce and intelligent manufacturing. The e-commerce trade volume reached 13 trillion yuan in 2014, and this number will hit 18 trillion yuan this year, according to some experts.

The internet serves as a technological base in the promotion of economic integration and trade globalization. The new model breaks through barriers among countries and moves towards borderless trade, while inducing bold changes of the global economy.

China and Arab states are natural partners in the construction of "Silk Road Economic Belt" and "21st Century Maritime Silk Road". Under the strategic conception of "One Belt One Road",  the building of the Online Silk Road, which is unconstrained by time and region is a great opportunity for China and Arab countries.

The China-Arab States Expo aims to inject new times connotation into the ancient Silk Road by virtue of the internet and to construct a stronger community between China and Arab countries. Both parties have already constructed the land, air and Online Silk Roads.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said interconnection is a road under our foot. Whether it is a highway, railways, airlines or internet, where the road leads, there is our cooperation.

Especially with the building of information superhighway, cross-border e-commercial centers and trade settlements, digital web portals, third party payments and so on, the  information sharing, smart city, online shopping, distant education and medical care will bring more benefits. After gathering strength from China and Arab countries, the Online Silk Road would become a newly-developing road to create happiness for people.
