The National Centre for the Performing Arts has brought together the 'Best of the Best' for this year's Dance Festival. The month-long event will begin at the end of September, with 19 productions lined up on more than a dozen stages.

From the Chinese "Peacock Princess" Yang Liping, to the world's top-ranking ballerina Sylvie Guillem, this year's NCPA Dance Festival features a star-studded lineup.

These artists, along with leading dance ensembles from around the world, will present 44 performances under the theme of "The Infinite Realm of Dance".

NCPA Vice President Li Zhixiang said at a press conference that the performances selected represent the best of the best.

"The performances to be staged don't simply represent the random collection of dances common at other festivals," he said.

"We have brought together top dance artists from around the world, and they will give the audience a chance to enjoy the best dance pieces in ballet, contemporary dance, and traditional Chinese dance."

Yang Liping's 'Under Siege - The Full Story of "Farewell My Concubine"' will open the festival, combining dance with Peking Opera and even martial arts.

And rising dancer and choreographer Wang Yabin will head her dance company "Yabin & Her Friends" to stage her new work "The Moon Opera".

"This dance is adapted from Bi Feiyu's novel of the same name. When I first read the novel, I was impressed by the heroine, who chases and explores how to live her life in a world that simultaneously reveres and restricts women. So I wanted to make it into a dance. I'm very happy that I can stage the story here to the audience," said Wang Yabin, Dancer/Choreographer.

French ballerina Sylvie Guillem will also grace the stage at NCPA with "Life In Progress", her farewell performance to an unparalleled career that has spanned nearly 35 yeas of ballet and contemporary dance.

To broaden its appeal to people from all walks of life, world-class choreographers and dancers participating in the festival will visit schools and community centers to perform free shows. The festival runs from September the 30th to December the 6th.
