Full coverage: President Xi Visits U.S.

The 70th session of the U.N. General Assembly opened the annual high-level General Debate on Monday in New York. It marked the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, peace and development in the world. Chinese President Xi Jinping claimed that China will always vote for developing countries in the U.N., calling for more representation and voice in global governance for them.

Calling on the world to reject the Cold War mindset and a 'winner take all' mentality, Chinese President Xi Jinping said all countries are now interdependent and share common commitments to mankind.

President Xi said China stand behind the current international security structure, but he called for a world of partnerships, not alliances.

Demonstrating China's commitment to the UN, Xi pledged a billion dollars over ten years to promote a peace and development fund. And for UN peacekeeping, China is promising to build a standby force of 8,000 troops ready to deploy at short notice- a permanent police squad -and another 100 million dollars for rapid reaction peacekeeping for the African Union. That cements China's role as the biggest contributor of peacekeepers of all the permanent members of the UN Security Council. And reassuring the world on China's rapid rise - Xi said China will never seek to dominate.
