Gov't to develop rural E-commerce, express delivery

10-15-2015 05:42 BJT

The Chinese government is promising to boost Telecom infrastructure, and improve E-commerce in less-developed rural areas. The decision was made during a State Council meeting chaired by Premier Li Keqiang.

The State Council expects broadband coverage to reach 98% of China's rural administrative villages by 2020, with an investment of 140 billion yuan. It says developing online business in rural areas will help boost consumption, upgrade the farming industry and increase the income of rural residents.

The State Council also plans to further develop the delivery industry. It pledges to support the industry by opening it up to private investment, supporting consolidation, and streamlining licensing and approvals. The government also hopes to provide more fiscal, financial, and land support for industry participants.
