Qualifying for the prestigious Chopin Competition is in itself a crowning achievement for a pianist. But to do so when blind? That's beyond extraordinary! Well Chinese pianist Luo Xin is in Warsaw right now and vying with 77 pianists from 20 countries for the top prize.

Jury members and the Warsaw audience are awaiting a very unusual contestant. 23-year-old pianist Luo Xin, from Chongqing in China, has been blind since the age of one. He began learning piano at six years of age, and it has been a consuming passion ever since.

"My life is not that colorful, just practising piano, and going back home everyday, nothing special. I've been to only two cities since I came to Poland," Luo Xin said.

And Poland is where Luo continues to study. His family have invested everything they have into supporting him, and his mother stayed in Poland with him for five years.

"The school gave us a discount for his tuition fee. Fortunately, the cost of living is not very high in this small city. We use our house mortgage loans," said Luo Manqian, his mother.

And it's been a 16-year journey to the world's stage.

"I feel I've become closer to Chopin. My dream is to be a pianist, and that hasn't changed. I want to know more about music," Luo Xin said.

Prize winners will be announced on October the 20th, and the gold-medal winner will receive a 30 thousand euro prize. Over the last three days of the event, the award winners will give concerts.
