Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom, Oct. 19 to 23 at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth II. The trip will be the first state visit to the country by a Chinese president in 10 years, since former President Hu Jintao's visit in 2005.

Queen Elizabeth II only receives two state visits annually. The UK side proposed an invitation at the beginning of the year and has prepared for his visit. Xi will visit the UK without stopping to other countries.  Xi is set to meet UK Prime Minister David Cameron at his countryside villa in Chequers.

In recent years, London has expressed goodwill towards Beijing. The UK has joined the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and has endorsed China's partnerships with the West.

Cameron has spoken about "a golden era" for bilateral relations. Xi's visit will expand cooperation in bilateral and global aspects to herald mutual benefits and a win-win future for both countries.

Development strategies of both countries can be enriched through cooperation. Beijing has initiated the "One Belt One Road" strategy, internet plus, and China manufacture 2025. The UK has outlined infrastructure upgrade plans, while projecting to build a northern England economic center.

Xi will visit British research and commercial programs in Manchester in northern England. Manchester used to be the birthplace of Britain’s Industrial Revolution. Accordingly, Xi's visit will provide further cooperation opportunities in terms of finance, resources, infrastructure construction, and culture creativity.

President Xi's visit will lay a solid foundation for better relations between China and Europe. The UK has enjoyed a unique relation with Europe. The UK is not constrained by the European Union (EU).

London can expand its international influence by strengthening relations with Beijing. In return, the UK can play a more constructive role for relations between China and Europe.

The Commonwealth can propel the EU to acknowledge China's market economy status and promote feasibility research on a Free Trade Agreement for China and EU.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of World Anti-fascist War. Seventy years ago, China joined hands with the UK to defeat fascist aggression.

Today, as Permanent Members of the United Nations Security Council, China and UK can maintain international order, deal with global climate change, promote international peacekeeping, treat large-scale infectious diseases and so much more.

President Xi's UK trip will launch a new stage for China-Britain relations and achieve fruitful results.
