The annual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) informal leaders' meeting will be held in Manila, Philippines on November 18 to 19. Leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, will meet to to promote Asia-Pacific regional cooperation, development and prosperity.

The theme is "Building inclusive economies; building a better world." Topics on the agenda include regional economic integration, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), human resources development and sustainable growth with a Leaders' Declaration to be published.

China is an APEC builder that supports regional cooperation. Last year, Beijing hosted the APEC summit that made many outstanding achievements.

APEC is the most influential, highest-level economic and trade cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region, which has adhered to trade liberalization, as well as economic and technical cooperation in the region.

It has played a key role in regional economic integration, improving interconnectivity and cultivating new economic growth points. Xi will attend the APEC CEO Summit and deliver a speech, while engaging in dialogue meetings with the APEC Business Advisory Council.

He is scheduled to attend a welcoming dinner for leaders, along with a luncheon and a two-stage informal leaders meeting. President Xi would explain Beijing's views on Asia-Pacific regional cooperation and highlight progress achieved on implementing priorities from last year's APEC meeting.

He will speak about deepening reform, Beijing's new measures for economic transformation based on the Thirteen Five-year plan. He will introduce the Belt and Road initiative, which is expected to bring new opportunities for the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the world at large.

Xi will expound on China's views of Asia-Pacific and global economic development, calling for an Asia-Pacific partnership, and to outline a vision for the Asia-Pacific's common development.

Beijing hopes to achieve the following: Based on diversity of the Asia-Pacific region, and acknowledging research for a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), to promote regional economic integration for the Asia-Pacific free trade zone.

To continue the Asia-Pacific's leading role in the global economy, and to expand pragmatic cooperation for greater interconnectivity and infrastructure.

APEC should utilize cooperation opportunities via the Internet economy, urbanization, SMEs to encourage new economic growth points and endorse inclusive growth.

To enhance a common consensus of the Asia-Pacific partnership for integration of interests. To build an open Asia-Pacific economy for the WTO Doha Round negotiations.

The Asia-Pacific free trade zone has become a new target of APEC regional integration. China expects to work together with all parties to complete a joint strategy for the free trade zone by the end of 2016.

The joint strategy should create a viable path for the FTAAP. It could establish a comprehensive, high-quality, balanced and inclusive Asia-Pacific FTA, which is beneficial to all APEC economies, especially the developing markets.
