For the past half month, terrorist attacks have shocked the world, spurring joint international actions against militant Islam.

From the Russian airliner crash in Sinai, to Beirut suicide bombings, from coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris to the latest Chinese and Norwegian hostages being killed, Islamist extremists have inflicted brutal atrocities.

Many regions are under the threat of terrorism. French President Francis Hollande declared a national state of emergency and will wage war on the "Islamic State" terrorist organization. Moscow has taken more air raids to the lairs of extremists.

World leaders and most others are condemning terrorism as the arch foe of humanity. China has fallen victim to terrorism as well.

Chinese hostage Fan Jinghui was slaughtered by IS terrorists. Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is in Manila for the 23rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting, condemned the killing.

"Terrorism is the common enemy of human beings," Xi said. He added that Beijing opposes terrorism and will crack down on terrorist crimes that challenge human civilization.

He reiterated that Beijing will enhance its anti-terrorism cooperation with the international community to maintain world peace and tranquility.

The United Nations (UN) Security Council released a press statement on Nov. 19 to condemn "the heinous and cowardly murders" of the Chinese hostage and Norwegian hostage, Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad, saying these crimes demonstrate brutality.

Apparently, the Islamist terrorist organization is not going to step away anytime soon. They have threatened new targets in Washington, Moscow and elsewhere. Terrorism has become the "most urgent security challenges" of our era.

Anti-terrorism bells have been alarmed across all corners of the "global village." Terrorism is just like "rats running across the street." Terror threats erupt up frequently, but the trend of joint international anti-terrorism is beginning to rise out of the ashes.

Hollande has called for an international coalition to destroy the "Islamic State" and called on the UN Security Council to pass a resolution as soon as possible.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Moscow will punish perpetrators of the Metro Jet air bombing and would intensify military operations in Syria. Intensive consultations among leaders of major countries are underway, seeking new methods of cooperation.

At the just-concluded 10th summit of the Group of Twenty summit and 23rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting, anti-terrorism statements were issued.

All parties reaffirmed "to unite against terrorism in all forms." Terrorism is the cancer of human civilization. No country is immune to its threat.

The valuable historical experiences of the victory on Anti-Fascism in World War II, 70 years ago tell us that when the international community forms a united front, could we destroy a common enemy.

Can the international community in the 21st century win this long-lasting fight against terrorism, and save people from annihilation?

It's time to build an international united front against terrorism. "Unity is strength" is an old Chinese maxim. The world must work together in good faith, to carry out international cooperation to cope with terrorist challenges.

Past experiences and lessons have proven that "unilateralism" is a "single-plank bridge;" while multilateral cooperation is a bigger bridge to success.

"Each one only sweeps the snow from his own doorstep and doesn't bother about the frost on his neighbor's roof." This attitude should not be accepted in the fight against terrorism.

Additionally, making "double standards" remarks would not be conducive to mutual trust and cooperation among all countries.

The world today is like a "global village." In order to overcome the public enemy and maintain peace, development and prosperity of the "global village", it is imperative to create an effective united front.

The sunshine of civilization and peace should spread to every corner of the "global village."
