French President Francois Hollande has invited all Heads of States and Governments to participant in a Leaders Event during the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference. The Leaders Event is an important opportunity for governments to confirm their support for reaching a meaningful global climate change agreement at this conference.

A family photo will be taken immediately after the opening of the Leaders Event. World leaders, including French President Francois Hollande, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, then will deliver statements.

The conference will last until December 11th, and is tasked with reaching a legally binding and universal climate pact. The goal is to limit average global warming to two degrees Celsius, perhaps less, over pre-Industrial Revolution levels, by curbing fossil fuel emissions.

So far this year, 183 of 195 nations have issued long-term plans for tackling climate change, covering about 95 percent of world emissions.  A number of high-level talks and bilateral meetings are scheduled for the coming week.
